Central America Coffee

Central American coffees are unique in that there are no similarities between the different coffees in this one ‘region’; each possesses a flavour and character all its own. As a matter of fact to call Central America a growing region is somewhat of a misnomer as Caribbean and other island grown coffees are often lumped in together with mainland Central America. This area of the world is often fraught with storms which sometimes, along with the small intimate nature of the growers, makes exporting difficult. Thus stocking the magnificent coffees from Central America are a privilege for us and one we delight in sharing with our customers. Check this page often to see what gems we have been able to obtain! Honduras La Ruda (Fairly Traded & Organically Grown)

This coffee is organically grown in the shade, at an altitude of 1300m in the volcanic soils of the Ocopeque mountains, West Honduras.  The result is a delicious & versatile coffee that boasts a creamy body, with flavours of chocolate and a fragrance of honey, complimented with a lively acidity.

Located in the West of Honduras.  This relatively small family run farm dedicated to growing coffee, produces around 2500 kilos of green beans in a harvest. The producer and owner of La Ruda, is a lady called Rina Mejia.

"My farm is located in La Labor.  It is a plot of 1.4 ha which has belonged to us since the time of my grandfather Alejandro Arita, who named it "La Ruda".  For two years I planted tomatoes and chilli pepper.  Then I decided to grow coffee and that was the best decision I ever made."

By entering into a long term agreement with Rina to purchase her crop, we can guarantee quality coffee exclusively stocked by ourselves and ensure that La Ruda's coffee is purchased fairly & ethically.
